The Engagement

You know what it's like when you get to that age when all your friends start getting engaged, getting married, and having kids...

In 5 years of relationship time, this is a common occurrence that I admit always leads to a mild decompensation on my part. I usually make some kind of fuss, mope around a little, and get over it. Let's refer to it as "post-engagement blues."
Well on a day in March, it occurred yet again when the happy news of another couple moving forward with their relationship was brought to my attention. I took the usual stance when I came home: grumpy and wanting to be left alone. I pulled on my ratty pajamas and settled in to watch a brainless movie.

Little did I know, that on this day of all days, the once dim bulb had suddenly brightened in Matt's head. He knew TODAY WAS THE DAY! He had gone out and bought the ring that very afternoon. For the first time, in all the times of my post-engagement blues, he realized, I CAN FIX THIS!
With the ring in his possession for less than 6 hours, he makes his move. He shows up in the entryway of the living room, holding a pale blue bag. To distract me from my stupid movie, he takes a deep breath and utters those romantic words every girl can't wait to hear:

"NOW WILL YOU STOP COMPLAINING?"
